These Autumn days are starting to actually become brisk in Georgia, and frequently rainy too. So to wake up that Saturday morning to sunny skies and mild temperatures it couldn’t have been a better day for some family portraits! I was very eager to head to Redcliffe Estate in Beech Island, SC to meet the Weaver family. This would be my first time meeting them and I knew from my messages with Rebecca that they were pretty much the bee’s knees. I arrived early to scope out some ideal lighting scenarios and found plenty. That’s one reason why I love this location so much – the ancient trees on the vast grounds provide excellent backdrops no matter what time of day!
In my conversations with Rebecca I knew I’d be meeting their family of four with their two little boys. But what I didn’t know was how stinking cute they’d be, oh my goodness! As they unloaded their crew I introduced myself to Brian, Rebecca, and their darling boys Daniel and baby Elliott. The first thing I noticed was every one’s warm smiles and sparkling blue eyes!

We walked and talked along the southern side of the mansion and let Daniel play as he threw brightly colored leaves into the air with that sweet mischievous grin I’m coining his signature look.
Afterwards, he was all about having some fun with Dad under the sprawling canopy of the tree. He got some serious air!

As I took photos of Rebecca and Elliott, Daniel and Brian explored a bit and I was so excited about the berry bush little Daniel had discovered, “Oh my goodness, you found treasure!” We of course channelled the holiday season vibes and huddled around the berries.

We took a small break so that Elliott could eat and Daniel could find “tunnels” hidden around the grounds. It was such a joy to see his imagination soar and to hear the excitement in his voice. After finding this gorgeous low branch so close to the ground, Daniel was eager to run the “leaf tunnel”!

When Rebecca asked if we could take one more family photo, even one with just her and Brian, my heart sang. I love me some family photos but I also REALLY love taking couples portraits. I thought it was so special that Rebecca and Brian wanted to take a moment and recognize that yes, children are a gift, but this is my partner, we’re in the trenches together, and this is the one whom my soul loves.

Brian, Rebecca, Daniel, & Elliott,

Thank you for spending your Saturday morning with me. For the baby giggles, the curious “what’s that?” questions, and chocolatey smiles. It was an honor to document the joy, energy, and love that your family has.

Love,

Araka
